Warrant of Fitness (WoF) Inspections at Waiwhetu Auto Services

At Waiwhetu Auto Services, ensuring your vehicle meets New Zealand's rigorous safety standards is our priority. Our comprehensive Warrant of Fitness (WoF) inspections are designed to thoroughly assess your vehicle's safety features and overall roadworthiness, following the guidelines set out in the Vehicle Inspection Requirements Manual (VIRM) as stipulated by the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA).

What Our WoF Inspection Covers:

Our WoF inspection is a general safety check encompassing various aspects of your vehicle to ensure it's safe for you and others on the road. The inspection includes:

  • Tyre Condition: We check for appropriate tread depth and ensure there are no significant damages that could compromise safety.
  • Brake Operation: The functionality and operation of your vehicle's brakes are thoroughly tested.
  • Structural Condition: We inspect the structural integrity of your vehicle, ensuring there's no rust in critical areas that could affect safety.
  • Lights: All vehicle lights are checked for proper operation to ensure visibility and communication with other drivers.
  • Glazing: The condition of your windscreen and other glass is inspected to ensure it provides safe visibility.
  • Windscreen Washers and Wipers: These are tested to ensure they operate correctly, providing clear vision in adverse weather conditions.
  • Doors: We check that doors open and close safely, without risk.
  • Safety Belts: All safety belts are inspected for damage, fading, and buckle functionality to ensure they can provide adequate protection.
  • Airbags (if fitted): The presence and readiness of airbags are confirmed.
  • Speedometer: We ensure the speedometer is working correctly to provide accurate speed readings.
  • Steering and Suspension: The safety and security of the steering and suspension system are verified.
  • Exhaust: Exhaust systems are checked for leaks, excessive smoke, or noise levels exceeding the original system's specifications.
  • Fuel System: We inspect for any leaks that could pose a safety risk.

What a WoF Is Not:

It's important to note that a WoF inspection is not a comprehensive check of all vehicle components. Specifically, it does not cover:

  • Engine, clutch, gearbox, and differential condition.
  • Lubricant levels and condition.
  • Brake pad thickness or life expectancy, unless visibly below safe limits.
  • Paintwork condition and some rust in non-structural areas.

Additional Certifications:

For vehicles that have been modified, such as cars, motorcycles, vans, or other light vehicles, a low volume vehicle certificate may be necessary. Our team can guide you through this process to ensure your modified vehicle meets all required safety standards.
